The Chabad center was one of 10 targets attacked by terrorists across Mumbai starting on Wednesday night (November 26) , including also the railroad station, a tourist restaurant, two hotels and hospitals. By Saturday morning the total death toll stood at 195. Nine people were killed in the attack on Chabad House.

FM Livni (28 nov): "This attack was carried out by a little-known local organization which claimed responsibility several months ago for another attack in India. The Chabad house in Mumbai is located at the end of an alley, and it is clear that it was chosen as a target. I understand that also those terrorists who attacked the hotels were looking for tourists of American, British and Israeli citizenship. There is no doubt that among the targets chosen by the terrorists were Jewish and Israeli targets, which are viewed as Western. This was a deliberate attack."

(30 nov) "The events of recent days in India prove once again that extremists seek to deprive others of their rights and not to win rights for themselves. Their purpose was to harm those who represent the free world, and they struck at a symbol of Judaism. Israel and the Jewish people again paid a heavy price for terrorism. The world must unite and face this threat together - whether in Asia, the Middle East or anywhere in the world."

PM Olmert to Cabinet (30 Nov): "Last week was marked by among the most serious terrorist attacks India has ever known in Mumbai and which were the product of extremist Islam - brutal and unrestrained, which tries to sow death and destruction wherever it can. There is no doubt that these attacks were designed - inter alia - to intentionally harm Jewish institutions. The hatred of Jews, the State of Israel and Jewish symbols are still a factor that spurs and encourages such murderous acts."
